Future Moldovan-EU agreement to be similar to those signed with Western Balkan states
2008 NOV 6 - The future agreement between Moldova and the European Union will be similar in content with the association and stability agreements signed with the Western Balkan states. The head of the political and economic section of the European Commission Delegation, Wolfgang Behrendt, made a statement to this effect during an informal meeting with journalists.

EU to forge closer ties with Moldova
2008 OCT 13 - Foreign ministers from the European Union (EU)'s 27 nations decided to boost ties with the Republic of Moldova by negotiating with it "a new and ambitious agreement" soon. The agreement is expected to go beyond the current Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, and will include the aim of a comprehensive and deep free-trade area, to be put in place when the Republic of Moldova is ready to sustain the effects of full liberalization of its trade with the EU.

Romanian President asked Ireland to support the idea that Moldova should be included in the Western Balkans package
2008 SEP 23 - Romanian President Traian Basescu on Tuesday said he asked for Ireland to look into the possibility of supporting the idea that Moldova should be included in the Western Balkans package when European enlargement is discussed.

European Parliament adopts resolution to create free trade zone with the Republic of Moldova
2008 SEP 04 - The European Parliament on September 3 passed a resolution whereby the MEPs backed the proposal to speed up the establishment of a free trade zone with Georgia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. The proposal forms part of a wider program that covers the extended Black Sea area.
